Career Development
Our students will succeed in a much different future from the one we envisioned 10 or 15 years ago. It is our responsibility to prepare all children for success in whatever life path they choose, connecting learning opportunities with future career possibilities. We know that real-life experiences - like community involvement, gaining business knowledge, and hands-on-learning - build better students and life-long citizens.
Goals
- Improve core competencies so students can achieve career/life goals.
- Improve graduation rates.
Eugene Reimer Middle has a robust Explorations program that introduces students to a wide range of potential career pathways, including carpentry, culinary arts, computer sciences, and music/band. In addition to these hands‑on learning opportunities, we incorporate activities that provide students with authentic real‑world experiences in business and entrepreneurship. This well‑rounded approach helps students build confidence, develop practical skills, and gain early insight into their future interests.
Here are some highlights of student events in 2025-26:
-
Trades Expo at the Cloverdale Agriplex, October 2025 (all grade 8s) - students learned about different skilled trades by trying hands-on activities and interacting with tradespeople.
-
Entrepreneur Fair in March 2026 (all grade 7s) - students participated in a showcase in our gym where they offered various products to sell to fellow students and visitors (community members and families). This was the culmination of a project we did over Term 2 where students had learned about the steps and process of starting their own business, including market research to determine a great product to sell, obtaining financing for start up costs, and learning about marketing. Students also had the opportunity to give back through donating a portion of their profits to charity.
-
Civic Plaza Tour in April (two grade 7 classes and one grade 8 class) - three classes from our school participated in the tour, which included visits to Abbotsford City Hall, Abbotsford School District Board Office, Abbotsford Police Department, Abbotsford Fire & Rescue Service, Clearbrook Library, and The Reach Gallery Museum to learn about the careers are connected to each of these organizations, and about the kind of work done at each site.
